taking a break
I've lifted for about 8 weeks now should i take a one week break and if so would that result in muscle loss?

You dont have to take a break after 8 weeks, unless there is a "body feed back" reason that you find it necessary.
Agreed, you will not lose any muscle in a week.
What type of training have you been doing the past 8 weeks and what are your goals?
What type of exercises?
What type of progress?
ROCK ON!
Best wishes to you my friend,
Chillen

Should I assume that you have been working out for a total of 8 weeks, and before that you had never worked out before?
May I ask why you feel that you're qualified to write your own routines and workout plans with such limited experience? Why not use a premade routine that is professionally written and takes the guesswork out of what you're trying to do...you'll get better results more quickly by doing so.
In general, the book "The New Rules of Lifting" is an excellent resource, but you can find free training programs at reputable websites such as t-nation.com too

If that's the case, then why didn't your coach (fitness coach? I'm sorry, do you mean personal trainer? I'll be honest, I'm not really familiar with the title "fitness coach.") answer those questions for you, and more importantly why didn't he/she include a deloading week into the periodization so that you don't need to be concerned about these things?

If you have to ask this question you do not need any time off.
After just 8 weeks you are just getting into the groove of training. So keep training.
I also find that life in general takes care of any off time that is needed, if you take my meaning. (vacations, holidays, etc.)
