Time spent in the Gym???

How much time should I be spending in the gym? I am only in there for at most 45 minutes. One thing I noticed, is that I don't waste any time in between sets (30 seconds), and also no one is at the gym I goto (except my dad and I literally, they built a gym for us at work ) Is this a normal amount of time? I do 3 sets of 10 on all exercises...

The normal amount of time would be the amount of time needed for you to get your workout done. It can be done in 45 mins. I see some people spend hours in the gym, but a lot of it is socializing. Sounds like you're doing fine. (Though 30 secs between sets is a BIT short!)

Cool. Yeah, a lot of places say 30sec to 90sec...I just don't see wasting the time if I feel like I am ready.

I only spend 30-35 minutes and have seen good gains in the last year, I think 45 minutes is absolutely fine. I usually rest about 60-90 seconds between sets.

rest time between sets depend on goals.

And the usual recommendation is to get out within an hour, thats when stuff starts happening to your body which really makes it a good time to go home.

I agree somewhat with Karky,

The rest time is a big factor in your gym time. Obviously if you are training max strength and need 3-5 minutes rest between sets....you probably will be in for 1.5-2 hours.

I wouldn't worry too much of ill effects of longer bouts....a good duration workout drink (bcaas and dextrose (juice)) should keep you from cannibalizing muscle.

As stated your goals and abilities will dictate workout time.

or you could superset and use 1 min between each, done in no time.

And its not just the energy, hormone levels (test, if i remember correctly) also starts dropping.
I feel it instantly whenever i cross this "barrier"

However, its not like your not gonna make progress if your in the gym longer than an hour, so its probobly not THE most importaint thing.

This is a good rule to follow. It is even more true if your goal is to build large muscle mass,if you are just looking for weight loss you can stay a little longer.

Hope it helps
