Told so many things, someone set this straight for me.

I am 17 and was doing curls with 10kg weights on each arm.
I have been told so many different things by different people, it would be nice to get the real truth;

Should I wait till im older to do weights and such? Im told if I do it now it will make me short and stocky as I grow up. Cos as Im still growing, I should wait till im about 19 to start doing them. (Im told)

Is this true? That it does make you stocky if you do it early?
If so, what is a good age to get into weights at?

Or is doing it now fine and ive just been told wives tales?

Also, this is referring to doing weights with arms obviously, but does this also go with working on making legs bigger too? The whole idea of 'ill go stocky' if I work to get bigger arms and legs, or just arms that it refers to?

Sorry for the constant questioning on these forums, new to all exercise scene so alot of questions. Your help is much appreciated.
