Weights, cutting, and toning

I understand it's impossible to build much muscle mass whilst 'cutting'. This is not what I'm trying to do.

But while I'm on this fat-loss diet, I'd love to tone up a little. What I can't seem to find anywhere, is advice on the best way to go about this. So my question is:

> Should I continue lifting heavy weights, intervals of 3 x 10 reps per exercise?

> Or should I start lifting lighter weights, with lots mor reps??

> Also, will weight training during cutting still increase strength?

Since I'm currently on the cut, I'm not looking to bulk muscle. But I'm hoping I'll look great if I tone up whilst losing fat.
Thanks

Le Guen

you can find it anywhere, but dont search for tone, because no one uses the word.

Lift heavy to avoid muscle loss while cutting. It can increase strenght, my strenght has increased since i started cutting, but that depends highly on your diet. and dont expect the same progress as if you were bulking.

It does seem that "popular culture" says to lift lighter with many reps while cutting. But I agree with Karky, keep lifting heavy, as heavy as possible.

I have started a phase to lose about 10 pounds, and my bench is increasing like crazy....and my weight is actually down (well 2 whole pounds, yippee, but it's been about 2 weeks, so I'm happy).

Thanks, both.

I've started fitting in sit ups as well. I know this won't tone my stomach until the fat is gone. I must get a picture of my progress up.

Also, you should be lifting a bit lower reps. Around 5-6 I think. I read that 10 is too high in cutting.

IMO if you're lifting for size, your routine shouldn't change at all from bulking to cutting. Maybe just a bit less volume OR frequency to help counter the slower repairs your body makes.
