What is HIIT, someone please simplify

I heard of this HIIT losing fat rather than muscle. I used to do a lot of running in the summer and boy did I lose weight, AND muscle. I am trying to avoid muscle lose and only aim for fat lose. I read somewhere in this forum about HIIT and how itll help you lose the fat. I run on the treadmill, so if you can give me an example of HIIT using the treadmill i'd appreaciate it. I dont run outside to much considering that it's to cold. In the summer I'll start back outside, but for now I go to the gym and use their treadmill. I would like to lose the fat like anybody else.

High Intensity Interval Training ... you jog at a good pace and then sprint for a short period, and repeat ... how's that for simple
.. to add a little more detail, I run about 45 seconds and then sprint for 15 seconds ... or 40/20 ... however, other people will give you different intervals ... I don't know if there is a 'right' way, but the principle is the same. The goal is to keep your heart rate lower than doing full-out-cardio, which burns muscle.

i did, and it's the same dif ... you push the buttons to increase your speed and then push it again to decrease it

... most treadmills you can just enter the desired speed on the number pad and hit enter ... it's not as easy as being completely in control (actual running, or something like an eliptical trainer)

HIIT can be anytype of aerobic movement done at two different paces. One pace is a moderate movement (jogging, moderate freestyle swimming, moderate jumping rope, moderate stair climbs, moderate sprints etc.) and the other is a high intensity movement (sprinting, fast freestyle swimming, fast jumping rope, fast stair climbs, fast suicide sprints etc.) Or you can do a combination of the movements like jogging then high speed jumping rope.

You can do HIIT on a treadmill but remember you're not accelerating your body. If your goal is to burn fat then the tread will be sufficient but if you want to gain speed and lose fat at the same time jog on a track. You cant get much speed on a treadmill
