Whats best?

I'm thinking of stopping going to the gym and just get a weight bench with a barbell and dumbells. Would it be best to go to the gym or would i get the same results at home?

At the moment the only things i can think of that i use at the gym and wouldn't have at home are; Squat rack which keeps me completely safe from the weight falling on me, rear delt machine, lateral pull down machine and a machine that i use to do rope pull downs.

Thanks in advance

I would recommend staying at the gym but,

Do have barbell & dumbells and weights bench at the gym?

How heavy is the heaviest dumbell at the gym?

Why do you want to train at home rather than the gym?

When I worked out at home I quickly maxed out the maximum weights I could put on the dumbell so I had no choice but to sell the weights and join a gym, they have more equipment, more space, you can learn things from people who go there and also you wouldnt need to invest in buying any equipment because it is all there.

They do have weights bench, barbell, etc at the gym and i think the heaviest dumbell is 25kg. I'd like to train at home because my mum can't always take me to the gym on the days i need to go which kind of messes up my workout program plus it costs about 50 pound a month for a gym membership and i think i would prefer to workout at home.

i did the home gym thing for awhile. problem is you keep having to run out and buy more equipment. you max out on what you have, and you need to buy more....i was spending the value of a monthly gym membership on dumbells for at home...and all i had at the end of the day were dumbells....i spend the same money now on a membership, and can exercise any muscle i feel like, with any amount of weight! defintiely stick with the gym

Stay with the gym. At home you'll prob have no one to spot you, no one to motivate you, and not enough equipment.

I find i get a better work out at me house than when i used to go to the gym. Its just me, nobody else to bullcrap with. I find my workouts go quicker, and are more intense. Really no need to go out and by dumbells every week either. They sell dumbells that you can add the weight to yourself http://www.sportswarehouse.co.uk/acatalog/YO6090.jpg they look like that. If you already have plates at your house you can use those. If you have a bench and squat rack at your house thats really all you need.

Exactly, well can't forget about the bar and weights as well.

I got myself a bench that has a squat rack attached as well as the leg curl/preacher curl attachment (although i do not use them).

Tully, a barbell, dumbbells, weights, bench, squat rack is all you need.
You can do chin ups on the squat rack so no chin up bar is needed..

Well at the gym I go to they don't have a squat rack and I think I can just about get away with it.

I do Lunges, Step ups and Single legged squats for legs.

I have decided to get a squat rack and bench so that i can workout at home because there is no squat rack at the gym i go to. The only exercise i feel i will miss is the lat pulldown, what can i do instead of lat pulldowns?

Would it be ok to do pull ups?

Yes, Pullups(wide grip best simulates lat pulldown) can be done instead of lat pulldowns.

What kind of gym doesn't have a squat rack?
