What's the deal with this.. someone explain

I know this guy (not me) who was:

6 months ago:

Age: 18
Height: 6ft 2' (188cm)
Weight: 139 pounds (63kg)

Needless to say he was thin as... very tall long and lean...

Today:
Age: 19
Height: 6ft 2' (188cm)
Weight: 152 pounds (69kg)

He did NOT go on any special diet... just kept his regular one and his routine was this:

Bench Press
Bicep Curls

and that was performed basically EVERY DAY....

His arms especially and shoulders look bigger than before...

what's the deal with this? he is clearly a hardgainer and trained EVERY day and neglected legs and back and still ???

So he put on 13lbs? That's decent weight for someone just starting, but imagine if he worked his entire body.

Good genes? Maybe he just got no exercise at all before and his muscles were very underworked, so they built up quickly by doing a couple exercises. Now if he adds a few more exercises he'll put on a ton more weight.

I agree sounds like good genes... are his muscle all out of proportion... meaning are his pecs huge and his biceps huge and the rest of him is small?

lets not forget, we do not know specifics on what he did, how he ate, or how much muscle gain there actually was. Weight gain does not necessarily mean muscle gain

That's only about 2 pounds a month in gain. When I started I was 6' 130lbs. For me, 5 lbs a month was about normal, but that was with a full routine and a change in diet. I think the classification of hardgainer is wrong. Friends used to tell me thats what I was, but I was thin because I didn't lift regularly. Your friend probably has good genetics and would gain some serious muscle if he followed a better routine.

he still probably looks like a stick though, 152 at 6"2 seems very light. Tell him to eat more
