work out strategy help

I want to gain muscle mass, but at the same time I want to lose weight. I'm pretty skinny (muscle wise), but lately I've gained a lot of fat.. especially on my face and gut. I'm trying to get rid of my fat and gain muscle.. the question is.. can I do both or do I have to work on them seperately? Lately I've been running in the morning and lifting heavy weights in the evening and I'm on a 1300 calorie diet. Will I lose muscle by doing cardio.. and if I did both cardio & weight lifting will I lose weight and just maintain the muscle I already have or will I gain muscle? Ehhh... I dont know much about fitness or nutrition... can someone help me out?

1300 cals is way too low, you will probobly go into "starvation mode"

Its usually better to focus on either gaining muscle or losing fat.

The limit for a male is 1800 to add on to that but that doesn't mean you should eat 1800 calories.

edit
Calorie Calculator - Daily Caloric Needs

Find your maintenance calories here . To burn fat drop 500 calories, to gain muscle add 500 calories. Adjust weekly as needed. Eat the right foods, weight train 3 times a week and you should see some progress. Consistency is key. More info in the stickies.
